SBF’s top lieutenant and ex-girlfriend testified that criminality, not carelessness, destroyed billions in value. So why is a different narrative circulating?
Spot on piece! Without adding anything, I just wanted to emphasize this timely bit, "...we ought not be duped by this form of messaging again. ‘Visionary’ leaders professing to save the world are probably just there to make money."
Great article Alex. I walked by the Federal courthouse today - I thought I caught a whiff of abject greed. Sadly this has painted crypto and Web3 with the same brush. Hopefully, once the anons and crypto manipulators go back underground, we can start on an actual path to bringing a broader swathe of the population an opportunity to participate in the (honest) global economy. But as you point out, this will not happen quickly. Hope to see you in Lisbon next month!

Great article. I actually went to one day of the Elizabeth Holmes trial. It was excruciatingly boring.
I'm curious: how early did you get there? When I went, there were no crowds, because no one famous was testifying.
Why is a different narrative spreading? Because Sam paid Michael Lewis to spread it. 500 million goes a long way.
I hope Walter Isaacson writes a more objective biography of SBF. The Michael Lewis one seems to biased to be worth reading.
