Spot on with “Having a conversation with someone gives you a much better understanding of their wants and needs than simply listening to them type a few words into a search bar. This data could be extremely valuable for all sorts of businesses”.
#SpiceTradeAsia was incredibly prosperous without advertising for the longest time -- millenia.
We have to get that bigger value-addition and emergence properties picture into our heads and narrow down from there.
A starting point is the sales/onboarding of a symbiosis protocol. As in biomimicry of Nature. As happened in #SpiceTradeAsia.
Regarding ads mid-conversation that ruins the illusion: We are pretty used to that from YouTube influencers. I’m not sure it would be that big of an issue if the chatbot was just straight and clear about it and it didn’t actually interrupt an infoing conversation - especially if we’re talking small-scale bot-creators who are trying to get by using sponsors and advertises.
The point is this, since we started 25 years ago search ads give value. It is very different in nature if you are looking for something transactional, travel, financial, restaurants or other services. When having a conversation about what to do the weekend, what is trendy, where to travel, etc. advertising adds value; also if you are having a conversation about health and suggest books, people to follow, gyms, diets, hacks, etc. The more the chat bot GPTXX knows you, the better it is, so yes it can make money with advertising.
Very interesting and insightful article. As a wise man once said, “well, let’s see how long that takes before they make money off of it”.
Maybe under the "subscription" model: advanced, customizable companions. Think virtual pets, dating partners, life coach...
